At Northeast Georgia Contracting, we offer comprehensive services to help clear your land. Whether it’s to clear overgrown grass, pesky weeds, stubborn stumps, bulky rocks or even demolish structures, we can do the job. Land clearing increases the usability and value of your property, but it also results in a large amount of debris that you will need to decide if you will dispose or re-purpose.
Here are three creative ways to utilize your
land clearing debris:
1. Shred Leftover Wood for Mulch
Not only does a layer of well-laid mulch make a recently cleared plot of land look more appealing – mulching also acts as a natural barrier between loose soil and the degenerative impact of inclement weather on recently destabilized ground.
Mulching protects soil from washing away in heavy rain, in addition to shielding roots from direct sunlight and preventing the growth of unwanted weeds (a factor that helps extend the amount of time between when land owner’s need their land bush hogged or cleared again).
Shredded bark and wood are among the least expensive options for mulching, and can be done on location with a shredder and tools to spread out the wood bits across the property. Ask your local landscape contractor about the option to shred and mulch any leftover trees and saplings for an added layer of ground protection; most land clearing services will be able to perform the job the same day your land is being cleared.
2. Re-purpose Reclaimed Wood
Blame Chip and Joanna Gaines, what is old is new again in home design. Tables, support beams, crafts, wall coverings. The possibilities are endless with reclaimed wood. Tree removal services are offered through most landscaping contractors, meaning any tree you need cleared from your land just might be fit to be sanded, chiseled, whittled or reworked to add a touch of homespun charm to your home.
3. Save or Sell Firewood
For wood that can’t be reclaimed or refurbished for interior use, chop it up and store it in a cool, dry place. Firewood created as a result of land clearing can be used both indoors and outdoors in a variety of seasons, and depending on the type of trees found of your property, can possess different levels of warmth, burn time, and aroma. Don’t have a use for firewood? Gather what chopped wood you have and sell it to neighbors!
